Meet the Guides
Alan Kelly
Parys Mountain has been a large part of my life for nearly two decades, both above and below ground. In my day job I'm a photographer and lecture in Photography and Photoshop in Bangor University. As you can imagine, I have thousands of photographs of the mountain from every conceivable angle and a few you wouldn't believe! If photography is your 'thing' I can take you to some great, and almost unknown, locations.
I live in sight of the mountain (in fact in an old miners house, next door to what had been one of the miners pubs!) and am up there as often as I can. On tours my particular love is to take you to the locations where key pints in history happened as well as telling some of the strange, and aften funny, stories about the miners themselves and how they lived their lives. I'd tell more here, but that would spoil the surprise when you come for a tour! If you want to talk to me about our tours or have any enquiries you can email me alan@walkamlwch.co.uk Look forward to hearing from you! |

I first visited Parys Mountain while on holiday in the early 60’s and was fascinated by the area then. My passion for the mountain was rekindled when myself and my wife bought a guest house in Amlwch in 1988. We ran the guest house for 12 years in addition to B&B guests we ran a walking holiday business obviously many of the walks took place on Parys Mountain.
I have been actively involved with industrial heritage ever since my youth. Needless to say I find Parys Mountain a fascinating place. By coming on one of our tours I would like to share with you my knowledge which I have gained over many years. You can contact me directly at ron@walkamlwch.co.uk |
Cefais fy magu yn Amlwch, a roedd Mynydd Parys yn ran bwysig o fy mhlentyndod. Er gwaethaf hyn, roedd yn llawer hwyrach pan ddysgais am ei hanes a phwysigrwydd, a cefais y gwybodaeth hyn gan bobl a oedd wedi symud i mewn i'r ardal!
O ganlyniad, roeddwn wir eisiau dweud wrth bobl eraill am Gymru, ac yn enwedig Amlwch a Mynydd Parys. Arweiniodd at fy hyfforddiant fel Tywyswraig Bathodyn Glas i Gymru, ac i weithio gyda’r Ymddiriedolaeth Treftadaeth Ddiwydiannol Amlwch. Bydd mynd ar daith gyda fi, Alan neu Ron yn eich galluogi i gael cipolwg ar gornel hynod ddiddorol o Gymru a'r straeon sy'n dod o waith dynion ar y mynydd. anne@walkamlwch.co.uk I was brought up in Amlwch, and Parys Mountain was an important part of my childhood. Despite this it was only much later that I found out about it’s history and importance, and that I learned from people who had moved into the area! This resulted in my being passionate about telling others about Wales, and especially Amlwch and Parys Mountain. It led to my training as a Blue Badge Guide for Wales, and to my involvement with the Amlwch Industrial Heritage Trust. Going on tour with either myself, Alan or Ron will enable you to have an insight into this fascinating corner of Wales and the stories that come from men’s work on the mountain. anne@walkamlwch.co.uk |
